5 of 5 people found the following review helpful  good desk, but hard to assemble, and not piece of wood in sight, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sauder Harbor View Computer Desk with Hutch in Antiqued White (Kitchen) The desk arrived in two boxes, delivered on time and well packed with clear instructions. However, on unpacking it quickly become obvious that this is not as it was described - a "wood desk." Instead, it seems to be made entirely of low quality particle board. Generally, this wasn't an issue, as the desk comes with several compression screws that hold the board together well. However, the installation requires you to put together the hutch, then attach it to the desktop with six wood screws that are simply screwed into the end of the particle board supports. You are then supposed to attach the base and lift the unit, turn it over, and install the backing. The problem is, the particle board isn't dense enough to hold the screws. Even moving the unit very carefully, some the screws pulled out. It would work much better if you could set the hutch on top of the finished base and screw it into place that way, but the design puts the screws underneath portions of the finished base... It really is made very well. It is a bit complicated to put together but it is doable, with patience and time. Start with separating all the nails, screws, etc. into an old ice cube tray. Perfect with all the dividers. You will fill one whole tray. A semi delivered the boxes and couldn't come down the driveway so be sure you have a truck or a sturdy cart to haul the desk to the house. It weighs about 231 LBS. Near the completion of putting the desk together, you will need an extra set of hands, to help. It really is a very nice desk and looks great. I honestly have been looking for a desk like this for a couple of years. People can't believe I put it together. They think it came like this from a furniture store. |
